BNB Chain plans new high-performance Layer 1 blockchain
BNB Chain is developing a new high-performance Layer 1 blockchain designed to operate in parallel with the existing BNB Smart Chain (BSC). The proposed network aims to provide significantly faster transaction processing, targeting block times of approximately 200 milliseconds and transaction pre-confirmations in about 20 milliseconds.
In a departure from typical blockchain expansions, the new network will not issue a separate native token. Instead, BNB will remain the sole asset used for transaction fees, staking, and governance across both chains, connected via a native bridge. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has expressed support for this unified approach, noting, “Multiple chains, one coins.”
Technical documentation indicates that an internal multi-validator development network is already operational. The roadmap targets a public testnet in late 2026, with a potential mainnet launch in early 2027. The new chain is expected to be EVM-compatible, allowing developers to migrate existing Ethereum-based applications with minimal modifications.
Separately, BNB Standard Corporation (formerly CEA Industries Inc.) marked its rebranding and the appointment of CEO Alex Odagiu by ringing the opening bell at the Nasdaq on October 26. The company, which holds a significant BNB treasury, plans to expand its involvement by operating a validator on the BNB Chain.
