BNDES allocates R$ 22.5 million for Brazilian cultural projects

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved a R$ 22.5 million fund for the Matchfunding BNDES+ Diversidade Cultural program. This initiative is part of a larger R$ 30 million investment in non-reimbursable resources planned over four years.

The program aims to support 500 small and medium-sized cultural projects across Brazil, with individual budgets ranging from R$ 30,000 to R$ 240,000. The funding covers sectors including theater, dance, music, visual arts, literature, audiovisual, and games. To promote decentralization, BNDES will provide a R$ 2 match for every R$ 1 donated by the public for projects in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions, while providing a R$ 1 match for projects in the South and Southeast.

Execution will be managed in partnership with Instituto Benfeitoria and Sitawi Finanças do Bem. The program prioritizes initiatives led by or focused on women, Black and Quilombola populations, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQIA+ individuals, the elderly, and people with disabilities or neurodivergence. The call for proposals is expected to launch in November, with ten selection cycles scheduled over three years.
