BNDES extends deadline for water security and climate adaptation projects

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has extended the application deadline to October 9 for its ‘Territórios da Restauração – Bacias Resilientes’ public call. The initiative aims to select projects focused on water security and climate change adaptation, with up to R$ 120 million in available resources.

Of the total amount, up to R$ 60 million will be provided by BNDES through its Socio-Environmental Fund, while the remaining R$ 60 million may come from public and private partners. Selected projects must involve investments between R$ 15 million and R$ 20 million and have an execution period of up to 48 months.

Target areas include river basins that supply major urban centers, such as the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region, as well as regions supplying São Paulo, the Federal District, Fortaleza, Cuiabá, and Porto Velho. Projects are required to include ecological or productive restoration of native vegetation in springs and riverbanks, alongside other water protection measures like green infrastructure or water reuse technologies.
