BNPB accelerates earthquake recovery aid in Nusa Tenggara Timur
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is accelerating aid for victims of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). BNPB Head Suharyanto stated that the region has entered the recovery transition phase, focusing on the construction of temporary (huntara) and permanent (huntap) housing.
Financial assistance schemes include Rp 15 million for light damage and Rp 30 million for moderate damage. For those with severely damaged homes, the government is prioritizing temporary housing. Residents opting not to stay in temporary shelters while awaiting permanent homes can receive a housing waiting fund of Rp 600,000 per month for three months. Most data verification for these funds is complete, with distribution expected in October.
Recent data indicates the earthquake's impact remains severe, with over 22,000 people displaced and 1,620 injured. Damage extends to 106,703 homes and over 2,100 educational facilities. Meanwhile, the Ombudsman of Indonesia has raised concerns regarding the quality of basic services in displacement camps, specifically noting inadequate shelter conditions and the urgent need for clean water, healthcare, and education in areas like Manggarai.
