Bob Montgomery dies after completing 5,300km MND charity ride across Australia
Bob Montgomery, an 82‑year‑old cyclist, finished a 5,300 km charity ride from Broome to Bowral with his 18‑year‑old grandson Tom Malcolm. The journey, called “Miles for MND: One Last Ride,” raised more than AUD 105,000 for Motor Neurone Disease NSW and brought his total contributions to about AUD 300,000.
The day after the ride, Montgomery suffered a medical episode while driving home with his wife Jenny. Their car crashed in the M5 East Tunnel, and he later died at St George Hospital. His wife survived with stable injuries. MND NSW chief executive Liam O’Meara called him “an incredible man” and praised his long‑standing dedication to the cause.
