Two Mexico City Youths Drown in Veracruz’s Boca del Río Beach
Two young men from Mexico City, Marco Morales (21) and Delfino Balderas (23), died after being swept away by strong currents at Santa Ana beach in the municipality of Boca del Río, Veracruz. The incident occurred on the night of 10 July when the pair entered the sea after the official lifeguard protection hours had ended. A rescue operation involving municipal protection civil, police, and state prosecutorial authorities was launched. One body was recovered near the Foro Boca area during the night, and the second was found the following morning along the same shoreline.
Authorities confirmed that the victims were relatives (brothers‑in‑law) and were on vacation. Officials reiterated that beach rescue services operate only until 18:00 and had previously warned swimmers about the closure and risk conditions. A third young woman who witnessed the event suffered a severe nervous crisis and received medical attention.
The deaths have prompted renewed calls for stricter enforcement of beach safety regulations during the holiday season in Veracruz.
