The bodies of U.S. couple Guillermo Jaffet and Zafar Padamsee, missing since May, were recovered in La Marquesa National Park, leading to arrests of seven suspects, including a former police officer.

In mid-August 2026, violence and fatalities were reported in several regions. In Tijuana, five bodies were discovered in the trunks of abandoned vehicles. In Cuauhtémoc, two men were found dead in a dam. Tragic drownings also occurred in Tamasopo. The missing-persons count stayed above 135,000, fueling protests.

Recent developments include an investigation into the disappearance of Ecuadorian doctoral student Jenny Kalindy Bolívar Guayacundo. In Mérida, an Alerta Amber was issued for 17-year-old Raúl Santiago Carpy Hernández, who disappeared on September 13 after leaving home to deliver a console. In Puebla, authorities confirmed the safe recovery of seven missing individuals, including three adolescents and a two-year-old. In Ciudad Juárez, authorities rescued a young man from Baja California Sur and five others from a kidnapping. Meanwhile, a 200,000 peso reward was offered for information regarding Jesús Adán González Morgado, missing since February in the Samalayuca area.
