Boca Juniors unveils plan to expand La Bombonera to 80,000 seats

Boca Juniors has presented a master plan to expand La Bombonera stadium, aiming to increase its capacity from approximately 57,000 to over 80,000 spectators. The project, led by Juan Román Riquelme, was recently detailed to club members.

Key structural changes include the construction of a fourth tier to add roughly 6,000 seats and the reconfiguration of existing upper tiers into popular sections, which would add another 12,000 spots. To accommodate new structures without purchasing neighboring residential properties, the club plans to shift the pitch four meters toward the railway tracks. This area will see the demolition of current boxes to make way for a six-story structure containing 216 new boxes and preferential seating, increasing that sector's capacity from 3,000 to 9,500.

Additional upgrades include a new roof covering the upper sections, a 360-degree LED screen, and the potential reconstruction of a historical tribute tower. The project is divided into stages, with the first phase involving the installation of support columns and the fourth tier. The club has reportedly received approvals from the National Commission for Transport Regulation (CNRT) and Ferrosur Roca SA to proceed with works near the railway lines.
