Bochum hosts European Cybersecurity Challenge for young IT talents

The European Cybersecurity Challenge (ECSC) has commenced in Bochum, Germany, bringing together over 400 IT talents aged 14 to 25. The competition features 42 national teams from 35 European countries, along with guest teams from Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the United States.

Participants compete in 'Capture the Flag' (CTF) disciplines, where they must identify security vulnerabilities in intentionally weakened computer programs to find hidden digital strings. The event focuses on both offensive and defensive skills, requiring participants to find loopholes and protect systems against simulated attacks.

The championship is organized by the Association for the Promotion of IT Security (NFIT) and supported by the EU Agency for Cybersecurity and the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre. Participants qualified through national selection processes that involved more than 30,000 young people.
