European Cybersecurity Challenge in Bochum
Overview
The European Cybersecurity Challenge (ECSC) has commenced in Bochum, Germany, featuring over 400 IT talents aged 14 to 25. The competition includes 42 national teams from 35 European countries, alongside guest teams from Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the United States.
Participants compete in ‘Capture the Flag’ (CTF) disciplines, which require identifying security vulnerabilities in weakened computer programs to find hidden digital strings. The event tests both offensive and defensive skills, tasking participants with finding loopholes and protecting systems against simulated attacks. The championship is organized by the Association for the Promotion of IT Security (NFIT) and supported by the EU Agency for Cybersecurity and the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre. Participants qualified through national selection processes involving more than 30,000 young people.
