Bodum recalls nearly 6 million coffee makers due to burn risk
Bodum USA has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of approximately 5.9 million French press coffee makers due to a risk of serious burn injuries. The recall involves 8-cup and 12-cup models with replaceable glass carafes, including the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya designs.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the glass carafes can unexpectedly break during use if they are damaged or cracked. This breakage can be triggered by using metal spoons or other hard utensils to stir coffee. To date, there have been 70 reports of carafes breaking and 48 reported burn injuries.
The recall covers products distributed from 1974 through October 2026. Affected items were sold at various retailers, including Amazon, Target, and Walmart, with retail prices ranging from $15 to $65. Bodum is offering customers a free plastic stirring spoon and a warning label to help prevent breakage. The company stated that the recall is intended to promote safer use of its products.
