Bodum French press product recall

Overview

Bodum USA has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of approximately 5.9 million French press coffee makers due to a risk of serious burn injuries. The recall involves 8-cup and 12-cup models with replaceable glass carafes across eight product lines, including the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya designs.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the glass carafes can unexpectedly break or burst during use if they are damaged or cracked. Investigations suggest that using metal utensils to stir coffee can cause microscopic scratches or structural weaknesses, which may lead to breakage when the carafes are exposed to hot water.

To date, there have been 70 reports of carafes breaking and 48 reported burn injuries. The affected products were distributed from 1974 through October 2026 and sold at retailers such as Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Bodum is offering customers a free plastic stirring spoon and a warning label to help prevent breakage and promote safer use.
