Venezuela floods leave multiple dead after heavy rainfall
Severe rainfall and flooding in central Venezuela have resulted in multiple fatalities and ongoing search operations.
In Miranda state, rescue teams located the body of 5-year-old Keiber Quintero in Higuerote after he was swept into a drainage system following a motorcycle accident in La Rinconada, Caracas. His mother, Keylin Quintero González, was previously found dead in Santa Lucía. Additionally, the body of Carlos Yoneiber Quintana, 29, was recovered near Cuchivano beach in Higuerote after he was swept away by the Guaire River in Caracas.
In Aragua state, authorities confirmed the recovery of Eduardo Barbera Pinto's body near the La Curía dike, approximately 8 kilometers downstream from where he and his wife, Zuleika Morillo, were swept away by the Aragua River. Search efforts continue to locate Morillo.
The heavy rains, linked to tropical wave number 40, have caused widespread damage, including flooding and the destruction of over 150 homes across the region.
