Bogor earthquakes damage hundreds of homes and religious facilities
Two shallow earthquakes struck the Bogor and Sukabumi regions of West Java on October 15, 2026. The first tremor measured magnitude 3.5, followed shortly by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) indicated that these shallow tremors, occurring at depths of 9 km and 5 km respectively, were likely triggered by active fault activity.
Local disaster management agency (BPBD) data shows significant structural damage, with the number of affected houses rising to 253 units. The damage breakdown includes 222 houses with light damage, 25 with moderate damage, and 6 with heavy damage. These impacts are concentrated across three villages in the Pamijahan and Leuwiliang districts, specifically in Desa Purwabakti, Desa Cibunian, and Desa Purasari.
In addition to residential damage, five houses of worship were reported to have sustained light damage. One female resident in Pamijahan sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment. BMKG has recorded at least 11 aftershocks ranging from magnitude 1.6 to 2.6, and continues to monitor the seismic activity in the area.
