Bogotá adds over 4 km of new bike lanes on Carrera 68

The Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU) officially opened more than four kilometres of dedicated bicycle lanes along Bogotá’s Carrera 68, stretching from street 13 to street 63. The project, part of the city’s larger Avenida 68 megaproject, aims to improve sustainable mobility for the estimated 2,500 daily cyclists and to link the bike network with the TransMilenio rapid‑bus corridor, health centres, and Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park. IDU director Orlando Molano confirmed that the work also includes an additional vehicular lane and that further sections of the corridor are slated for completion before year‑end, supporting Bogotá’s push for inclusive, green transport infrastructure.

The initiative aligns with recent international recognitions for Bogotá’s accessible tourism and ongoing urban renewal plans, reinforcing the capital’s role as a regional leader in sustainable mobility.
