Bogotá Metro Line 1 surpasses 80% completion and advances pedestrian link with TransMilenio

The construction of Bogotá’s Metro Line 1 has passed the 80 % execution mark, with more than 16 kilometers of viaduct now built. Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán highlighted the project’s entry into its final, critical phase, noting that coordination among civil works, viaducts, rail systems and stations is now essential.

The Metro authority also unveiled detailed designs for a new pedestrian connection between the line’s second station and the Portal Américas of the TransMilenio BRT network. The integration will feature shared ticketing, vertical walkways and three access buildings, aiming to streamline transfers once the line begins commercial operation, projected for March 2028. These developments position the Metro as a transformative mobility solution for millions of Bogotanos.

The progress reflects extensive coordination among construction firms, municipal officials and transport planners, with expectations that the system will significantly reduce travel times and support the city’s broader urban development goals.
