Kenyan runners sweep Mexico City Half Marathon, winning men's and women's titles

The 19th edition of the Mexico City Half Marathon took place on Sunday, 12 July 2026, with a new 21 km route that began at the Hemiciclo a Juárez, passed through the third section of Bosque de Chapultepec and finished at the Ángel de la Independencia. About 35 000 runners from 32 nations participated.

Kenyan athlete Simon Maywa won the men’s race in 1:04:36, followed by Uganda’s Abel Chelangat (1:05:55) and Mexico’s Jorge Luis Cruz (1:06:07). In the women’s division Kenyan Gladys Cherop Longari claimed victory with a time of 1:12:19, ahead of fellow Kenyan Winsam Jerono and Ecuadorian Silvia Patricia Ortiz Morocho. Winners received MXN 50,000, second place MXN 35,000 and third MXN 20,000.

The event also featured wheelchair and visually‑impaired categories, and the city’s Metro offered free rides for registered participants. “Contento, en esta ocasión nos quedamos con el tercer lugar…”, said Mexican runner Jorge Luis Cruz after the race.
