2026 Mexican running events

Overview

The 2026 Mexican running season reached a milestone with the XLIII Mexico City Marathon on 30 August. The event, which expected over 30,000 participants, saw runners start near the UNAM Central Library and Olympic Stadium before finishing at the Zócalo.

In the men’s elite category, Peruvian athlete Cristhian Pacheco secured first place with a time of 2:10:03, earning 50,000 USD and a Garmin watch. Pacheco pulled away from the lead group after the 27-kilometer mark. He was followed by Ethiopian runners Anbesa Lencho Tefaye in second and Balew Yihunie Derseh in third. In the women’s elite category, Ethiopia’s Alemtsehay Asefa Kasegn took first place with a time of 2:29:30, ahead of Gebremedhin Kidsan Alema and Tefera Kolole Mekashu.

Special category winners included Brenda Osnaya Alvarez, who secured her second championship in the women’s wheelchair division, and Gonzalo Valdovinos González in the men’s special category. While the race was highly competitive, no historical course records were broken during this edition.

Prior to the race, participants collected kits at the World Trade Center in Mexico City between 27 and 29 August. Other regional events in the season include the third Conecta-Te race in Mazatlán on 20 September and Monclova’s Half Marathon on 18 October.
