Bogotá authorities investigate woman's death during home tattoo session

A 33-year-old woman died on Saturday, August 15, during a home tattoo session in the Terrazas de San Jorge neighborhood of Bogotá, Colombia. The victim reportedly suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest around midday and passed away at the scene despite attempts to provide aid.

Authorities, including the Sijín and the Fiscalía, are investigating the cause of death. Preliminary reports suggest the tattoo artist arrived with an accomplice who allegedly administered an anesthetic substance to the woman before starting the procedure. Investigators have seized needles, inks, and pigments for laboratory analysis to determine if they contained toxic or unauthorized components.

While the tattoo artist and their companion have provided statements, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed. The incident has renewed discussions regarding the regulation of home-based tattoo services and the risks of using anesthesia without medical supervision in unauthorized settings.
