Maracaibo: Former police officer attacks El Marite prison with grenade

Roberto Carlos Galbán Beleño, a 29-year-old former officer of the Cuerpo de Policía Nacional Bolivariana (CPNB), was identified as the individual who allegedly launched a grenade at the entrance of the El Marite detention center in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

The attack occurred during the early hours of Sunday, September 6. Following the incident, members of the Guardia Nacional Bolivariana (GNB) stationed at the facility responded with gunfire. Galbán Beleño sustained serious injuries during the exchange and was subsequently transferred to the Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo for emergency surgery.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack. Reports suggest the suspect may be linked to the criminal group led by “El Adriancito.” This incident marks the second attempt on the El Marite facility in less than three days, following a previous discovery of an unexploded device at the site on September 4.
