Bogotá implements major road closures for Metro Line 1 and Autopista Norte construction

The Empresa Metro de Bogotá and the Secretaría Distrital de Movilidad have enacted a traffic contingency plan on Primero de Mayo Avenue in the city's south. Starting 29 May 2026, two sequential phases will close the northbound lane and pedestrian sidewalk, then the southbound lane, to allow the lifting of heavy steel beams, installation of the upper deck and a pedestrian footbridge for the future Station 5 of Metro Line 1. A permanent contraflow will keep the opposite lane open, while night‑time restrictions on sidewalks run from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Separately, the Secretaría Distrital de Movilidad authorized the closure of the exclusive TransMilenio lane and two mixed‑traffic lanes on the Autopista Norte between calle 183 and calle 191. Work to dismantle and lift high‑voltage ENEL poles will begin at 10 p.m. on 4 June 2026 and last about a month, with a detailed Plan de Manejo de Tránsito to maintain vehicle flow and keep articulated buses on the western lane.

Both projects aim to advance Bogotá’s public‑transport infrastructure while minimizing disruption through staged lane closures and alternative routing.
