Bogotá Botanical Garden partners with shopping centers for urban greening

The Bogotá Botanical Garden José Celestino Mutis (JBB) has established a strategic alliance with 12 shopping centers to promote urban renaturalization and mitigate climate change effects in Bogotá. The agreement involves complexes such as Multiplaza, Unilago, and Plaza de las Américas, focusing on the maintenance, gardening, and urban agriculture of green spaces surrounding these commercial hubs.

Scheduled to implement specific actions between August 2026 and February 2027, the partnership includes the planting of various species, such as pink chicalás and azaleas, to create sustainable urban landscapes. JBB Director María Claudia García noted that this cooperation between the private and environmental sectors aims to provide social and environmental benefits to local communities.

Additionally, the JBB continues to promote its Tropicario, the largest greenhouse in South America. Spanning 2,700 square meters with six glass domes, the facility recreates diverse Colombian ecosystems, including tropical rainforests and high-altitude paramos, serving as a center for scientific dissemination and sustainable tourism.
