Bogotá Botanical Garden partners with WWF Colombia on climate and biodiversity projects

The Jardín Botánico de Bogotá José Celestino Mutis and WWF Colombia have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to strengthen biodiversity conservation and nature‑based solutions in the capital. The partnership will support joint research, ecological restoration, environmental education and climate‑change adaptation, including the development of a bio‑economy initiative such as a commercial edible‑mushroom cluster.

In parallel, the Botanical Garden announced four measures to lessen the impact of the El Niño phenomenon on the city’s green infrastructure: expanding chip‑wood mulching, using hydrogel‑enhanced substrates to retain soil moisture, avoiding removal of surrounding grass and scheduling irrigation for nighttime hours. It also urged residents to postpone new garden and orchard projects during the peak of the dry season. Directors Claudia García Dávila and Sandra Valenzuela highlighted the importance of integrating urban forests into Bogotá’s environmental policy and promoting sustainable lifestyles for millions of residents.
