Bogotá enforces weekly vehicle restrictions as Cali redirects traffic after campus unrest
The Bogotá District Mobility Secretariat released the pico y placa schedule for June 8‑14, 2026, maintaining a restriction on private vehicles between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Odd‑ending plates (1‑5) may circulate on odd days, while even‑ending plates (0, 6‑9) are allowed on even days. On June 8 a regional pico y placa operated on the nine main entry corridors, alternating even and odd plates during midday and afternoon windows. The agency expects about 965,000 vehicles to enter the capital during the holiday‑return period and warned that violations could incur fines exceeding 633,000 pesos.
In Cali, disturbances near the University of Valle on June 10 escalated when a group detonated an explosive device against a private vehicle. No injuries were reported. The city’s Mobility Secretariat condemned the act, deployed police and transit agents, and set up road closures and detours. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes such as Avenida Ciudad de Cali, Avenida Bicentenario and the La Buitrera corridors while normal traffic conditions are restored.
