Bogotá Greenlights 18 Traffic Cameras and ALO Sur Highway Construction

The National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) authorized the installation of 18 new photodetection cameras in Bogotá through Resolution 358 of 2026. The cameras will be placed at high‑traffic points such as Av. Ciudad de Cali, Av. Suba, Av. Américas, Cra. 58, Av. NQS, Calle 47A, Av. El Dorado, Cra. 25, Cra. 17 and Av. NQS, Calle 9, monitoring violations like illegal parking, speed excesses, driving without SOAT insurance or vehicle inspection. Councilmember Julián Forero questioned the priority, stating, “Bogotá needs good roads, smart traffic lights and efficient mobility. The mayor’s focus appears to be expanding the camera network to issue more fines.”

The Ministry of Transport and the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) set August 5 2026 as the start date for the ALO Sur project, a 24.5‑km, double‑carriageway link between Sibaté, Soacha and Bogotá that will integrate with Metro Line 1. The project includes 45 bridges, two grade‑separated intersections, pedestrian and cycling paths, and aims to improve southwest access to the capital and relieve congestion on existing corridors such as the Southern Highway and Calle 13 in Fontibón.
