Bogotá launches large‑scale adoption drive for 70 rescued pets

The Instituto Distrital de Protección y Bienestar Animal (IDPYBA) announced a campaign to place around 70 dogs and cats rescued in Bogotá into permanent homes. Three adoption events are scheduled: July 4 at the Paseo Villa del Río mall (11 a.m.–5 p.m.), July 18 at Centro Mayor (until 6 p.m.) and July 26 at the Avenida Chile mall, coinciding with the “No más Olé” law commemoration. All animals will be sterilized, vaccinated and dewormed before adoption. Prospective adopters must present identification, proof of residence and undergo a psychological interview, and for dogs, provide leashes or muzzles as required. The campaign follows earlier calls for the public to adopt rather than purchase, aiming to reduce stray populations and give the rescued animals a second chance.

A separate announcement highlighted that more than 70 rescued dogs and cats are currently seeking homes in Bogotá through adoption sessions, reinforcing the city’s ongoing effort to manage animal welfare and promote responsible pet ownership.
