Bogotá launches community science and recreation programs in July 2026
The Secretaría Distrital de Ambiente linked Bogotá to the global National Moth Week 2026 by organizing a citizen‑science night in the Parque Distrital Ecológico de Montaña Serranía del Zuque. Technicians and volunteers set up light traps, recorded about ten moth species and gathered data on nocturnal biodiversity as part of a worldwide effort led by Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission.
Separately, the Secretaría Distrital de Integración Social held a pedagogical and environmental day for children from the Centros Proteger at Parque Jaime Duque. The outing included outdoor activities, wildlife observation and group games aimed at fostering emotional development and guaranteeing the right to recreation for vulnerable youth. Both initiatives illustrate the district’s focus on environmental education, community participation and social protection.
