Bogotá launches oral health and vaccination initiatives
Bogotá is implementing several public health initiatives focused on prevention. The city is hosting the IV District Oral Health Week, titled ‘La sonrisa nos une’, to promote dental hygiene in schools, homes, and communities. This initiative follows reports from the Oral Health Surveillance System (SISVESO) showing 8,724 notified cases in Bogotá as of June 30, 2026, including 7,220 cases of cavitational caries and 7,038 cases of gingivitis.
Additionally, the Bogotá District Health Secretariat (SDS) has launched a vaccination campaign for September 2026. Citizens can access vaccines for diseases such as smallpox, polio, measles, HPV, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and hepatitis B at various locations throughout the city without an appointment. The campaign aims to complete immunization schedules and provide booster doses to maintain community immunity.
