Bogotá Metro Line 1 reaches 78.7% completion as Kennedy crossing partially reopens

The Bogotá Metro’s Line 1 is now 78.69% complete, according to the latest report from Empresa Metro de Bogotá and the project overseer. The milestone includes 15 km of viaduct built, 6,700 metres of rail installed, and the receipt of the 30 train sets being manufactured in China. The system, slated to be 24 km long with 16 stations, will serve over 2.9 million residents and move up to 72,000 passengers per hour once operational.

On 12 June, the Metro authority temporarily reopened the intersection at street 42 Sur in the Kennedy district, allowing limited vehicle flow while construction continues on the upcoming station along Avenida Primero de Mayo. Officials warn the opening is short‑term and further road closures may be required as work progresses.
