Bogotá opens completed Avenida Laureano Gómez (Carrera 9) in Usaquén

Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán inaugurated the full opening of Avenida Laureano Gómez (Carrera 9) between calles 170 and 193 in the northern district of Usaquén, Bogotá. The project, contracted in 2017 with an original 2020 deadline, was delayed for more than six years due to technical problems such as water‑line interferences, road subsidence and redesigns linked to the Tibitoc water conduit.

The completed corridor spans 2.3 km with six traffic lanes, two carriageways, a 2.3 km bike lane, 254 new streetlights, 23,000 m² of public space, 387 trees and 1,413 m² of murals created by the collective Monster Paint. More than one million residents of neighborhoods such as San Antonio, Tibabita, Lijacá, Verbenal and Villas de Aranjuez are expected to save 35–45 minutes per trip, easing congestion on the Autopista Norte, Carrera Séptima and Avenida Boyacá. The mayor apologized for the prolonged wait and highlighted the increased budget of over 159 billion Colombian pesos that enabled the project's completion.
