Bogotá Opens New Calle 153 Bridge as ALO‑Sur Highway Project Starts

The Bogotá mayor’s office officially handed over the 363‑metre Calle 153 vehicular bridge, linking Avenida La Sirena with Autopista Norte. The structure includes three traffic lanes, an on‑ramp lane and a 5‑metre bike‑pedestrian deck, serving an estimated 240,000 vehicles daily, of which about 40,000 will use the new bridge. The project, completed after the district took over in January 2024 and imposed a 243‑million‑peso fine on the contractor for delays, is expected to benefit more than 20,000 pedestrians and cyclists each day.

In a related development, the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and concessionaire ALO Sur S.A.S. signed the act to commence construction of the Avenida Longitudinal de Occidente (ALO‑Sur). The 24.5‑kilometre double‑carriageway, stretching from Chusacá (Sibaté) to Calle 13 (Fontibón), is budgeted at 1.96 trillion pesos and will be built over four years in phases. The highway aims to relieve congestion on Autopista Sur, a key corridor for cargo and passenger traffic, and to improve the flow of goods into and out of the capital.
