Bogotá opens Nuevo Renacer care center in Fontibón for the elderly

The Mayor's Office of Bogotá has inaugurated the Nuevo Renacer Day-Night Transitory Care Center in the Fontibón locality. The facility is designed to expand coverage for elderly individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Located in the western part of the city, the center provides 75 permanent spots offering comprehensive services, including temporary accommodation, balanced nutrition, and psychosocial support. This opening increases the total capacity of the Day-Night Transitory Care Network by 16%, bringing the total number of available spots in the capital to 415.

Roberto Angulo, the Secretary of Social Integration, noted that the center serves as a practical alternative to the risks of living on the streets or dealing with informal daily rental arrangements. The initiative follows findings from the Street Habitability Census and technical analyses by the District Secretariat of Social Integration, which identified a need for social infrastructure in strategic zones. The network now includes five operational units across the Kennedy, Rafael Uribe Uribe, Los Mártires, and Fontibón localities.
