Bogotá's TransMilenio Disarmament Plan Seizes 25,734 Weapons
The Secretaría Distrital de Seguridad, Convivencia y Justicia and the TransMilenio mass‑transport system intensified control and inspection operations at portals and stations in July 2026 under the Plan Desarme. Focused registration and background‑check actions were carried out at Portal Suba.
The operations resulted in the seizure of 25,734 bladed weapons during the year, about 5,000 more than the same period a year earlier. Authorities also issued 158,113 citations under Law 1801 of 2016 for violations of the National Security and Coexistence Code. Persons caught carrying such weapons are barred from accessing stadiums and other mass‑attendance events. Inter‑institutional teams continue to protect passengers and TransMilenio staff as part of broader urban safety efforts.
