Bogotá Metro Line 1 surpasses 80% construction milestone

The Bogotá Metro’s Line 1 reached a total progress of 80.37% as of June 30 2026, marking the most significant milestone of the first half of the year. The achievement was highlighted by Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, who noted that the project met its target and is on track for the “white trial” phase scheduled for September 2027, during which the system will undergo comprehensive passenger‑free testing.

Key developments include the selection of three station names—Ciudad Kennedy, Timiza and Santa Isabel—by local residents, the full opening of the Calle 26 – Atrio station as the first completely operational new station, and the signing of Decree 229 2026 launching the “Ondas Metropolitanas” program to improve public spaces and pedestrian connectivity around the line. Additional construction work, such as the night‑time closure of the north side of the temporary TransMilenio station on Av. Jiménez, is proceeding to facilitate the lifting of viaduct segments.

A recent citizen survey showed that nine out of ten Bogotanos feel optimistic about the metro, with 95 % viewing the project as a reality that will transform mobility, urban development and quality of life for millions of residents.
