Bogotá’s IDPYBA launches virtual training program for responsible pet ownership
The Instituto Distrital de Protección y Bienestar Animal (IDPYBA) is offering a free virtual training series to promote responsible pet ownership and address misconceptions about pitbulls in Bogotá. The interactive sessions, held every two weeks on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. via Microsoft Teams, run until 1 August 2026. Topics include the importance of vaccination, micro‑chipping, proper socialisation, and the fact that aggressive behaviour is linked to pain or mistreatment rather than breed genetics. Participants will receive practical guidance to ensure safe coexistence between pets and the community.
The initiative aligns with broader municipal efforts to improve animal welfare, complementing recent changes to water service tariffs and other local policies aimed at supporting responsible stewardship of animals in the city.
