Boiu Mare authorities seek urgent action over wild boar crop damage
The local administration in Boiu Mare, Maramureș, has issued an alarm regarding significant damage caused by wild boars to local corn crops. Mayor Nicolae Prodan stated that the community is facing increasing losses, with many residents reporting that their investments and hard work are being destroyed overnight.
To address the immediate impact, the Boiu Mare Town Hall, in collaboration with the Maramureș Agricultural Directorate and the Forest Guard, has prepared seven compensation files this week to ensure affected residents receive payments.
Beyond financial compensation, the local government is demanding urgent and concrete measures from hunting fund managers and competent institutions to limit the phenomenon. Following a report to AJVPS Maramureș, 4 wild boars were collected within 48 hours, adding to 11 others collected since May. The administration is urging all affected farmers to report damages immediately to ensure every case is documented and centralized.
