Wild boar crop damage in Boiu Mare

Overview

In Boiu Mare, Maramureș, local authorities have issued an alarm regarding significant damage to corn crops caused by wild boars. Mayor Nicolae Prodan noted that residents are facing increasing losses.

To mitigate the impact, the Boiu Mare Town Hall, the Maramureș Agricultural Directorate, and the Forest Guard have prepared seven compensation files to facilitate payments to affected residents. The local administration is also demanding “urgent and concrete measures” from hunting fund managers and relevant institutions to control the animal population. Since May, 11 wild boars have been collected, including four within a recent 48-hour period.
