Kwara State: 308 hostages rescued from jihadi captivity
Nigerian security forces have conducted a major rescue operation, freeing at least 308 people held by jihadi militants. Among the liberated were 163 residents of the Woro community in Kwara State, who were abducted during a violent raid on February 3 that killed over 160 people.
Survivors recounted harrowing conditions during their nearly six-month captivity, including extreme hunger, exposure to heavy rain, and lack of medical supplies. One survivor, a nurse named Amirah Salihu, detailed how she was forced to deliver approximately ten babies using only her bare hands due to the absence of gloves or medical equipment.
Reports indicate that at least 13 captives died during the ordeal, and some children were reportedly left behind with the militants. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq received the rescued victims in Ilorin, noting that 46 individuals required hospitalization. In response to the security crisis, President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new military brigade to strengthen protection in the Kwara and Niger regions.
