Bolivia and Argentina tackle water tariff adjustments

In Bolivia, the government affirmed that there is no general increase in water tariffs charged by the public utility Epsas in El Alto. Adjustments seen on some bills are linked to the UFV index, which reflects inflation, and affect only users who consume more than 15 m³ per month. About 85 % of the 321,913 Epsas customers continue to pay the subsidised rate of 1.78 Bs per cubic meter.

In Argentina, AySA announced that its Tarifa Social programme remains active, offering low‑income residential users a discount on water bills and options to regularise debt. Eligibility is limited to households with net income up to a specified threshold (approximately $824,000 for a single person). Beneficiaries also receive protection from service cuts and can access interest‑free repayment plans. The programme is overseen by the water‑regulating authority ERAS and includes a community‑tariff component for public institutions.
