Bolivia and Venezuela Boost Measles Immunization Campaigns

The La Paz municipal government in Bolivia will open twelve temporary measles‑vaccination stations during the Gran Poder festival, using the large public gathering to reach children and adolescents under 19. The city already operates 67 health centres and five secondary hospitals that provide free vaccines, and officials say they have sufficient doses and staff for the effort.

The Pan American Health Organization (OPS) is supporting Brazil’s donation of more than 100,000 measles‑mumps‑rubella (MMR) vaccine doses, along with pentavalent and other childhood vaccines, for Venezuela. OPS provided thermal containers, electronic temperature loggers and logistical assistance to preserve the cold chain. The shipment is intended to maintain high vaccination coverage and prevent outbreaks as the country recovers from recent disasters.

Both initiatives aim to strengthen routine immunisation in their respective countries and reduce the risk of measles and other vaccine‑preventable diseases among vulnerable populations.
