Overview

Through July 2026 the region kept expanding free immunisation. A new concern emerged in Argentina: childhood vaccination coverage fell below the 90 percent target, prompting an increase in severe infections such as pneumonia, meningitis, diphtheria and whooping cough that required hospitalisation. Health officials highlighted compulsory vaccination provisions, noting that judges can order vaccination when parents refuse, with non‑compliance treated as a criminal offence. The situation underscores both the progress of free campaigns and the challenges of maintaining high coverage across Latin America.
