Bolivia approves National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy
The Bolivian government has approved the National Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation and its Action Plan for 2026–2030 through Supreme Decree No. 5753. The strategy establishes 17 national goals, 49 expected results, and 271 specific actions designed to guide the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of the country's natural heritage.
The plan is organized into four main pillars: strengthening regulatory, institutional, governance, and financing frameworks; sustainable ecosystem management; conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; and knowledge management. Key priorities include strengthening protected areas, recovering degraded ecosystems, integrating biodiversity into territorial and development planning, reducing threats to species, and promoting scientific research.
The strategy also aims to link conservation efforts with productive opportunities and community livelihoods. This includes the sustainable use of forest products such as Brazil nuts, rubber, and asaí, as well as wildlife resources subject to specific management plans, such as vicuña fiber.
