Bolivia conducts rabies vaccination campaigns in La Paz and Oruro
Health authorities and academic institutions in Bolivia are conducting rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats across the La Paz and Oruro departments.
In La Paz, the medical school of the Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo” deployed over 170 brigades to support a regional campaign organized by the La Paz Departmental Government, the Departmental Health Service (SEDES), and municipal authorities. Students from the first, second, and third years of the medical program visited homes and fixed vaccination points to help meet public health goals. Preliminary reports indicate that the vaccination target for pets has been reached.
In Oruro, a campaign is scheduled to begin on November 15, utilizing approximately 170,000 available vaccines. Due to pending vaccine deliveries, the campaign will be implemented in two phases, with the second phase starting on December 5. The first phase will prioritize the central municipality, with brigades visiting homes, plazas, and parks. The initiative, managed by SEDES Oruro, will use a digital system for registration and tracking to maintain the region's status of having no recent rabies cases.
