Bolivia extradites Colombian criminal leader ‘Mapaya’ to Colombia
Bolivian authorities have extradited Jorge Isaac Campaz Jiménez, known as alias ‘Mapaya’, to Colombia following a judicial order. Campaz Jiménez is identified by Colombian authorities as the alleged leader of the criminal organization ‘Los Espartanos’, which operates in Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca.
His capture occurred on April 6, 2026, during a police operation in Paurito, Santa Cruz, which involved an armed confrontation. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly using a false identity. Campaz Jiménez had previously escaped house arrest in Colombia in 2021 and faces a prison sentence of over 10 years in his home country for crimes including international drug trafficking, extortion, and contract killing.
The Bolivian government and police expressed frustration with the judicial system, noting that previous court rulings had released several members of the criminal group. Minister of Government Marco Antonio Oviedo and Colonel Adrián Álvarez criticized the lack of judicial support for police efforts to combat international organized crime and narcoterrorism.
