Bolivia launches Frontera Segura 2.0 security plan

Bolivian Government Minister Marco Oviedo has introduced the Frontera Segura 2.0 plan, a strategic initiative aimed at combating narcoterrorism, extortion, and organized crime. The plan includes the immediate deployment of 230 officers to Santa Cruz, with additional reinforcements scheduled every 45 days.

A key component of the strategy involves the creation of two “super elite” units in high-incidence areas: one between San Ignacio de Velasco and San Matías in Santa Cruz, and another in Beni. These units are expected to be established within approximately one year and will utilize advanced technology, including drones and artificial intelligence, for monitoring.

The initiative involves international cooperation with the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations. Minister Oviedo emphasized that these elite forces will operate in strategic border zones to strengthen state presence. Additionally, the government is working to secure logistical and technological resources through coordination with regional authorities regarding hydrocarbon tax revenues.
