Bolivia commemorates 201st independence with school parades and nationwide festivities

Bolivia marked the 201st anniversary of its independence on 6 August with large civic‑educational events across the country. In Tarija, a massive student parade marched along Avenida Integración, attended by thousands of students, teachers, families and local officials. The ceremony was led by Vice Governor Gonzalo Ávila and Mayor Johnny Torres, who highlighted education as a pillar of national development.

In Oruro, more than 6,450 students from 93 schools participated in a parade on the Avenida Cívica “Sanjinés Vincenti”. District Education Director Raúl Villca stressed the importance of patriotism and civic values for the nation’s future. Both events featured school bands and displays of national and departmental flags.

The holiday was extended to 7 August, giving Bolivians a long weekend to travel, attend civic activities and enjoy traditional cuisine. Popular dishes highlighted for the celebration include fricasé from La Paz, the hearty Pique Macho of Cochabamba, and the sweet‑savory Majadito from the eastern lowlands.
