Bolivia 2026 national and regional celebrations

In late July 2026, Bolivia’s La Paz and Oruro departments prepared extensive bicentennial programmes. La Paz marked its 176th anniversary with an artistic parade, a flag march by schoolchildren and concerts, while also advancing municipal projects such as the Desaguadero hostel and avenue renovations. Oruro scheduled more than 85 cultural, academic and sporting events spanning 2024‑2027, including a scientific congress, civic‑military parade and museum projects, aimed at reinforcing regional identity and boosting tourism.

A few days later, the nation observed its 201st Independence Day on 6 August 2026. The holiday was extended through 7 August, providing a long weekend for travel, civic events and public parades nationwide. Celebrations highlighted regional dishes—fricasé from La Paz, Pique Macho from Cochabamba and majadito from the eastern lowlands—underscoring Bolivia’s cultural heritage.

On 5 August, school parades added an educational dimension to the festivities. In Tarija, thousands of students, teachers and families marched along Avenida Integración, a ceremony led by Vice Governor Gonzalo Ávila and Mayor Johnny Torres emphasizing education as a pillar of development. In Oruro, more than 6,450 students from 93 schools paraded on Avenida Cívica “Sanjinés Vincenti”, with District Education Director Raúl Villca stressing patriotism and civic values. Both events featured school bands and extensive flag displays, reinforcing the national spirit alongside the broader celebrations.
