Bolivia proposes 47 Amazon projects and conservation funding

The Bolivian government has introduced the ‘Amazonia Bolivia Strategy,’ a portfolio of 47 projects aimed at attracting international investment for the Amazon region. Presented by the Ministry of Sustainable Production, Environment, and Water to organizations including the World Bank, the European Union, UNDP, and FAO, the strategy focuses on eight strategic lines. These include forest conservation, sustainable bioeconomy—specifically chestnut and asaí production chains—infrastructure development, and access to clean water.

In a separate initiative, the Bolivian government signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to establish a long-term financing mechanism for 28 protected areas. This includes 24 national protected areas and four areas within the Guaraní Indigenous Autonomy of Charagua Iyambae.

Minister Óscar Mario Justiniano emphasized that forest conservation must generate economic income for local and ancestral communities to prevent deforestation. The goal is to create a ‘Financing Program for Permanence’ to sustain biodiversity and territorial management through climate financing and indigenous governance.
