Bolivia's Rodrigo Paz outlines new economic model at UN

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz delivered his first speech at the United Nations General Assembly, outlining a new economic and political direction for the country. Paz criticized the ideological models of former leaders Hugo Chávez and Evo Morales, stating that 'socialism and ideology do not provide food' and instead advocating for a 'capitalism for all' model centered on investment, employment, and industrializing natural resources.

Paz also addressed recent domestic instability, denouncing a 53-day road blockade as an attack by 'narcoterrorism' intended to disrupt democracy. He noted the blockade resulted in 22 deaths and significant economic losses. To counter these challenges, the President is actively seeking international cooperation, meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and various multilateral organizations.

On the economic front, Paz reported that international reserves have risen to approximately $1.2 billion from $51 million at the start of his term. He highlighted a $1.9 billion financing agreement with the IMF and stated that international organizations have committed up to $10 billion for infrastructure projects. Additionally, Paz noted his unconventional election victory, claiming he won using a $50,000 TikTok-based campaign strategy.
