Cambyretá: Officials dismissed over ambulance fuel fraud

Two officials contracted by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare have been dismissed following the discovery of a fuel fraud scheme in Cambyretá, Itapúa. Administrative controls and physical inspections conducted by the VII Sanitary Region revealed massive discrepancies between reported mileage and actual vehicle readings.

According to fiscal reports, an Iveco ambulance recorded a declared travel distance of 58,812 kilometers, while physical inspections showed a real total of only 31,190 kilometers. A similar pattern was found in a Land Cruiser ambulance, which showed a discrepancy of over 26,000 kilometers. Authorities suspect that public funds intended for medical care were systematically diverted for private use, potentially involving the fueling of personal vehicles. The dismissal was formalized via Resolution No. 279/2026, signed by Health Minister Isaías Fretes.
